Hey Sis,
Let’s talk about self-sabotage. You know, that sneaky little habit of working against ourselves while swearing we’re doing the best we can. As nurses, we are the queens of self-sabotage. Don’t believe me? Let’s take a moment of silence for every water bottle we left untouched on a 12-hour shift because we “didn’t have time to take a bathroom break.” 🤦🏾♀️ Now, add the hats of being a woman and a mother, and it’s a circus of neglect where we’re the ringleaders.
Why do we do this? Seriously, why?
I’ve had moments where I was mad about not doing what I wanted to do or feeling “stuck,” only to realize I wasn’t stuck—I was just sabotaging myself. I was skipping the things I knew would make life easier because they felt inconvenient in the moment.
The Cycle Stops Here
Let’s break this down:
- You want to save money? Stick to your budget, sis.
- You want a night off? Lean on your community—call that friend or family member to babysit.
- You want to feel rested? Go to bed. Stop doom-scrolling on your phone at midnight and then acting shocked when you wake up cranky.
We’re grown, but here’s the tea: we still need structure. Sometimes, we have to parent ourselves. If you know staying up late turns you into a grouchy zombie mom the next day, why are you still up watching Netflix at 1 AM?
Sis, it’s 2025. We are not about to keep wandering around this desert of bad habits for 40 years when we could course correct in 30 days. (Let’s shout out the Israelites for teaching us what not to do.)
A Weekend Challenge: Course Correct
This weekend, I challenge you to pick ONE area you want to improve:
- Is it sleep? Create a bedtime routine and stick with it.
- Meal planning? Sit down and write out your week’s meals.
- More intentional time with your kids? Schedule a no-phone hour to do something fun together.
For the next 7 days, trial your new system. On Day 7, reflect, pivot if needed, and keep going. Stick with it for 30 days and let’s see how much better you feel.
God’s Wisdom for Your Journey
Proverbs 16:3 (KJV) reminds us, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Sis, we’ve got the tools, the free will, and the grace to do this—but we’ve got to commit.
So, let’s stop getting in our own way. Let’s be intentional, set boundaries, and keep showing up for ourselves, our kids, and our calling.
You’ve got this, Sis. Let’s win together in 2025!
Love,
Sanjé
