The Divine Calling of Nursing
Being a nurse is not for the faint of heart. The emotional weight, physical demands, and mental stamina required are unmatched. But what sets nurses apart is how much love we bring to the role. I’ve seen firsthand how the presence of a compassionate nurse can literally improve outcomes—and transform lives.
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus…” — Colossians 3:17 (NIV)

The Juggle is Real: Nurse + Mom + Growing Woman
Let’s keep it real—balancing motherhood, a demanding career, and your own growth is a serious art form. When I first started as a baby nurse, I used to bring the stress home. The anxiety would creep in on my days off. But God—and some serious intention—helped me shift.
Here’s what helped me:
- A solid morning routine to ground my day
- Organized report sheets to keep me focused at work
- Clear communication with my patients, using the whiteboard to set expectations
- A tag team system with my techs when working with confused or high-needs patients
- And finally at the end of the shift— saying:
“I did my best, now it’s time to rest.” (Yes, I said it out loud. And yes, it worked.)
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” — Proverbs 31:25 (NIV)
From the Bedside to the Playground
When I got home, I had to pivot into “mom mode”—and fast. When my Minnie was in toddler stage, I leaned into free activities to make memories without breaking the bank:
- Local libraries
- Parks
- Outdoor malls with play spaces
I even created a monthly calendar of events to keep us both excited. And when I doubted if I was doing “enough,” I could look at that calendar and remind myself:
“Sis, you ARE showing up. You are present. You are doing beautifully.”
Oh—and don’t forget to invite your mom friends! Even if they say no, the offer matters more than you know.
Personal Growth Starts with the Spirit
Here’s the truth: I don’t do any of this alone. GOD is my rock, period.
Whether it’s through gospel music, journaling, reading devotionals, or lunchtime walks where I just vent to Jesus—my faith is what grounds me, strengthens me, and grows me.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” — Matthew 6:33 (NIV)
Being rooted in faith has allowed me to rediscover who I am—not just as a nurse or a mom, but as a woman. And what I’ve found is beautiful. God has been with me through every chapter, and He’s not done yet.
A Prayer for My Fellow Nurses:
Lord, thank You for the calling You’ve placed on our lives. Give us strength when we are weary, patience when we are pressed, and peace that surpasses all understanding. Remind every nurse reading this that their work matters. Their motherhood matters. Their growth matters. Fill every gap with Your grace and let us rest in the truth that You are with us—on and off the clock. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Final Encouragement
You don’t have to have the perfect balance, sis. Just be intentional. Keep showing up with faith. And know that every little thing you do—at work, at home, and in your heart—is seen by God.
Happy Nurse’s Week to every nurse who pours from her cup. May God keep refilling you.
