Hey Sis!!!
Let’s talk about something that’s been sitting heavy on my heart—vulnerability and creativity. Over the weekend, I dove into Dare to Lead by Brené Brown and Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, and whewww, the gems were PLENTIFUL! So, you know I had to bring them here to share with you!
Lesson #1: Vulnerability is the Key to Connection
Brené Brown reminded me that if you want to truly connect—with your kids, your team, your friends, or even your work—you have to be vulnerable. That means showing up as your full self, flaws and all. The fear of being judged can keep us from sharing our gifts, but Sis, God didn’t create you to shrink!
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7
Lesson #2: Creativity is a Gift from God—Use It or Lose It!
Elizabeth Gilbert (yes, the Eat Pray Love lady!) dropped this truth bomb in Big Magic: If you don’t pursue your creativity, God will pass that idea to someone else. Ever had a million-dollar idea, but you hesitated, and a year later you saw it on TV? Yeah, that part.
We don’t need permission to be creative—we just need to make time. Instead of saying, “I’ll wait until my debt is paid off to be creative,” or “I’m too busy right now,” ask yourself:
- How much time do I spend scrolling on social media?
- Could I swap out an episode of that reality show for 30 minutes of creative time?
Creativity doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming. It could be as simple as journaling, doodling, or grabbing some supplies from the dollar store and seeing what you can create.
Lesson #3: Stop Being So Hard on Yourself
One of the biggest creativity blockers? Self-criticism.
Gilbert says we overthink and sabotage our own creative flow. Her solution? Trick your brain into tapping in.
I LOVED the example she gave about Brené Brown struggling to write her last book. Instead of forcing herself into a rigid routine, Brené took a girls’ trip, told stories to her friends, and had them take notes. Later, she transcribed those notes and BAM—book written! Sis had FUN and got her work done!
Creativity is Self-Care & Legacy
When you make time for creativity, you boost your energy, increase focus, and feel at peace. And guess what? Your little ones are watching! When they see you tapping into your gifts, they’ll be inspired to do the same.
So, this week’s challenge:
Make time for your creativity. Whether it’s 10 minutes of writing, sketching, or DIY-ing something small, just start. Let’s break free from the perfectionism and self-doubt that’s holding us back and step into the joy God has for us.
Are you in?! Let me know how you’ll be creative this week!
