Sis! Let’s Talk Gratitude + Mindfulness This Holiday Season
Hey sis! Welcome back to another Rooted & Resilient Monday. Grab your coffee, your badge, and whatever snacks your kids didn’t eat on the way out the door, because today we’re diving into something every Christian nurse mom needs during this busy holiday season. GRATITUDE and MINDFULNESS.
The holidays can feel heavy, especially when you’re a new nurse juggling home life while caring for patients who may be struggling without family or support. It’s easy to slip into burnout when you’re pouring out so much, at home and at work. That’s exactly why we need to stay grounded through faith-based mindfulness and intentional holiday self-care, so we can stay present and actually enjoy these moments with our little ones.
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)
A reminder that gratitude isn’t about ignoring stress. It’s about anchoring yourself in God’s goodness, even in the chaos.
1. Build a Consistent AM + PM Routine
A routine is not punishment. It’s protection, sis.
Your morning and evening habits shape your entire day, especially when navigating the demands of nursing and motherhood. Even a simple moment alone for prayer, journaling, or a devotional can help you center your heart. This is one of the most powerful self-care routines for nurse moms because it resets your mindset before everyone else needs you.
2. Schedule Little “Reset Moments” Throughout Your Day
These tiny mindfulness breaks for nurses can be as simple as stepping outside for fresh air, walking a flight of stairs, or whispering a quick prayer between patients. Five minutes can shift your entire spirit. You may not feel like doing it at the time, but you will always be glad you did. This is how you fight nurse burnout, one small reset at a time.
3. Create a Decompression Ritual When You Get Home
Transitioning out of “nurse mode” is essential for work–life balance. When I get home, I turn on the Christmas tree lights and light a candle. It’s a simple ritual, but it instantly signals to my brain, “you’re home now… you can breathe.” Find something that works for you. It’s a powerful way for nurse moms to reduce stress during the holidays.
4. Practice Gratitude both in the Morning AND at Night
Gratitude is one of the most effective mindfulness practices for nurse moms, especially during emotionally heavy seasons. I’ve been practicing both morning gratitude and end-of-day gratitude, and it’s changed everything.
AM Gratitude Examples:
- Waking up this morning
- The devotional that fed my spirit
- The crisp morning weather while walking my dog
PM Gratitude Examples:
- Kind neighbors who check in
- Being able to order groceries and have them delivered
- My hilarious family group chat that keeps us connected
These small moments remind you of God’s presence, provision, and peace. Gratitude is how we stay rooted. Even when the day is long!
Connection is EVERYTHING!!
Tell me in the comments: How are you practicing gratitude and staying mindful this holiday season?
Have a blessed and safe week!
With Love,
Sanjé
