Staying Calm in the Chaos: A Reminder for My Nurse Moms

Happy Monday, Girly!! Welcome back to  Rooted & Resilient faith blog! If you’re a mom stepping into your nursing career or trying to stay afloat in it. I want you to know this space was created with you in mind. Every Monday, we breathe, reflect, and reset together.

This week’s theme: staying calm in the chaos.

Listen… between motherhood, long shifts, school schedules, clinical stress, and trying to remember if you actually switched that laundry over (let’s be honest—you didn’t), life can feel like a nonstop swirl. But here’s the truth: chaos doesn’t get to control your spirit.

1. Your Calm Is a Choice. Not a Circumstance.

Nursing will test you. Motherhood will stretch you. But the Word reminds us:
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.” – Isaiah 26:3 (NIV).

Peace comes from anchoring your mind, not escaping your reality. Even on your busiest days, you can choose grounding moments, a prayer under your breath, a slow inhale in the med room, or a quick gratitude list before walking into a patient’s room.

2. You Don’t Have to Do Everything at Once

Sis, you are one person. And guess what? God never asked you to be superhuman.
Your assignment is to steward your season, not conquer every mountain in 24 hours.

Create small, doable systems:

  • Prep uniforms on Sundays
  • Keep a “quick meal” rotation
  • Use alarms to stay on track
  • Give yourself permission to rest without guilt

Small structure = less chaos.

3. Invite God Into Your Workday

As nurses who are also moms, we carry a lot. But we never carry it alone.
A simple morning prayer can shift your whole atmosphere:

“Lord, steady my mind today. Help me lead with compassion, clarity, and calm. Walk with me into every room.”

Your career is ministry. Your motherhood is ministry. And you are graced for both.

4. Don’t Forget Your Humanity

You will get tired. You will get overwhelmed. That doesn’t make you weak. It makes you human.

Pause. Stretch. Hydrate. Vent in your car. Cry if you need to.
And then remind yourself: you are still chosen, still equipped, still capable.

5. Find Joy in Your Micro-Moments

Chaos tries to distract you from the small blessings:

  • Your baby’s hug when you walk in
  • Your coworker who makes you laugh
  • The patient who says “thank you”
  • A moment of quiet after the kids go to bed

Joy doesn’t always show up loud. Sometimes it whispers.

This Week’s Affirmation

“I am rooted in God’s peace. I remain calm, present, and steady, even when life is chaotic.”

You’ve got this. And as always, I’m right here cheering for you.

With Love,

Sanjé
