Sis, let me tell you… this weekend, God really got my attention through Ephesians 6. You know the scripture: “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:11, NIV). Whew! Doesn’t that hit different when you’re in the thick of a busy, overwhelming season?
Because when you are on the path God has called you to, trust me—the enemy notices. He will come at you from every angle. Some days it feels like a game of dodgeball, right? Just when you think you dodged one hit, another ball is flying at your head. But sis, we are not playing games—we are covered in the Word.
And because I know what it’s like to walk through these wild seasons—balancing motherhood, a nursing career, and just trying to stay sane—I want to drop some gems on how to keep your cup full and your armor strong. Think of this as a survival kit for new nurse moms stepping into this beautiful but challenging chapter.
1. Guard Your Mornings and Evenings
Your routines are your armor. When you start and end your day with intention, you create room for peace instead of chaos.
Morning Routine:
- Wake up 30 minutes earlier. (Yes, sis, even though I know the bed is calling your name!)
- Drink a glass of water before coffee.
- Pray and journal before touching social media.
- Move your body—stretch or squeeze in a quick workout.
Evening Routine:
- Lay out your clothes for the next day (yes, adults do this too LOL ).
- End the day with a cup of tea and a lit candle.
- Write down your wins for the day and your to-do list for tomorrow.
- Read a book instead of scrolling.
- Minimize screen time an hour before bed (pro tip: charge your phone outside your bedroom).
Remember: You can’t pour from an empty cup. Pour into yourself first.
2. Protect Your Peace at Work
Nursing is demanding, but you don’t have to carry it all alone. Protect your peace like it’s part of your uniform.
- Start your shift with a quick prayer: “Lord, use my hands, my words, and my heart today. Keep me grounded in You.”
- Step away for 2 minutes when you can—breathe, reset, and pray silently.
- Write down a gratitude note after each shift (even if it’s just one good thing that happened).
3. Stay Anchored in Scripture
When it feels like everything is coming at you, cover yourself in God’s promises.
Here are a few scriptures to carry with you:
- Ephesians 6:13 (NIV) – “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground.”
- Isaiah 40:31 (NIV) – “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles…”
- Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV) – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Gentle Reminder
Sis, you are not just a nurse and you are not just a mom…
You are God’s daughter, chosen and equipped for this very season. The devil may try to distract you, but he cannot destroy you when you are rooted in Christ.
So wake up with purpose, armor up with the Word, and take each day one shift, one prayer, one breath at a time.
What’s one habit you can add to your morning or evening routine this week to guard your peace? Drop it in the comments! I’d love to cheer you on!
