Hey Sis!

It’s Wednesday, and we’re still in the countdown to my birthday! This week is all about reflection, transformation, and stepping boldly into our next chapter. Today, let’s talk about breaking habits that no longer serve us.

Whew, Sis. This one hits home for me because, if we’re honest, we all have habits we know we need to let go of. Whether it’s procrastination, saying yes to things that drain us, or that little voice in our head telling us we’re not enough—it’s time to let it go.

Why We Cling to Old Habits

You know what I realized? A lot of our habits stick around because they feel comfortable, even if they’re not good for us. It’s easier to stay up late scrolling TikTok than it is to set a bedtime and stick to it. It’s easier to say “I’ll do it tomorrow” than to start something new today.

But Sis, here’s the truth: You deserve better than what’s comfortable. Growth is uncomfortable because it pulls us out of what we know and into what we’re capable of.

Breaking the Cycle

This year, I’m committed to breaking cycles that no longer serve me, and I hope you’ll join me in this. Let’s get practical:

  1. Name the Habit – Write down the habit you want to break. Be honest with yourself. No sugarcoating.
  2. Find the Root – Why do you have this habit? Is it fear? Stress? Lack of structure? Understanding the root helps you address it.
  3. Replace It with a New Habit – Don’t just stop a habit—replace it. For me, I’ve been swapping Netflix for reading. It’s about filling that space with something that nurtures you.
  4. Get Accountability – Find your tribe! Whether it’s a friend, a journal, or a prayer partner, accountability makes all the difference.

Transformation Starts with God

When it comes to breaking habits, I lean heavily on my faith. Sis, God can do a new thing in you, but you have to give Him something to work with.

Isaiah 43:19 (NIV) says: “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

God is always ready to do a new thing in our lives, but sometimes we have to step out of our own way and trust Him.

My Personal Transformation

One of the biggest habits I’m breaking is overcommitting myself. Sis, I’ve been that mom, that nurse, that friend trying to do it all. But you know what? That’s not sustainable. Now, I’m learning to say no, to ask for help, and to prioritize rest.

Turning off my phone notifications has been one of the best boundaries I’ve set. It helps me stay present and grounded. And you know what? The world keeps spinning even when I take a break. Imagine that!

This week, I challenge you to pick one habit to break. Whether it’s hitting snooze, skipping meals, or saying yes when you mean no—commit to making a change.

Let’s keep growing, glowing, and stepping into the women God has called us to be. We’ve got this, Sis!

Drop in the comments and let me know: What’s one habit you’re ready to break? Let’s hold each other accountable.
