5 Ways to Let Faith Be Your Foundation

Life often feels like a series of storms—especially if you’re a mom, a healthcare worker and juggling the emotional scars of surviving abuse.

Between intense work-shifts, parenting demands, and personal healing, it’s easy to feel stretched thin.

..But here’s the good news: Faith can be your anchor. Whether you’re charting in between patient care or whispering a prayer while folding laundry, Faith has a way of grounding us and giving us the strength to persevere. Here are five ways faith keeps us going when life gets tough!

1. Faith Provides Peace Amid Chaos

You know those days when call lights are non-stop, your child’s daycare calls mid-shift, and you’re wondering if you’ll ever get a moment to yourself? Faith has this incredible way of helping you breathe through the chaos. Philippians 4:7 (NIV) says, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” That kind of peace doesn’t depend on everything being perfect (because, let’s face it, it never is). It’s about knowing there’s a bigger plan at work—even when it feels like everything is falling apart.

2. Faith Reminds Us We’re Not Alone

Let’s be real: being a mom and working in the healthcare industry, it can feel isolating. Add the weight of past trauma, and some days it’s hard to imagine anyone truly understands what you’re going through. But faith steps in to remind us that we’re never truly alone. God’s presence is a constant source of comfort, whether you’re comforting a patient, tucking your kid(s) in at night, or processing the past. Psalm 23:4 (NIV) says it best: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” And yes, sometimes that valley looks like a back to back admissions and a patient with a CBI (continuous bladder irrigation, if you know… you know) -__- or an exhausting day of juggling it all.

3. Faith Offers a Sense of Purpose

Why did you get into healthcare? For most of us, it wasn’t the glamour or the paychecks. It was about serving others, often fueled by the desire to make a difference. Faith reminds us of the deeper “why” behind what we do—whether that’s showing compassion to a patient, being a role model for our kid(s), or proving to ourselves that we’re stronger than the challenges we’ve faced. Romans 8:28 (NIV) says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Faith turns our trials into a testimony, giving us purpose even in the pain.

4. Faith Builds Resilience

If anyone knows resilience, it’s moms in healthcare. We’re pros at pushing through exhaustion, whether it’s a rough shift, a child’s tantrum, or memories we’re working to heal from. Faith adds another layer to that strength, reminding us we’re not just strong—we’re sustained by something bigger. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV) captures this perfectly: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” When you feel like you’re running on fumes, faith reminds you that you’re running with purpose.

5. Faith Inspires Community and Support

There’s nothing like leaning on a faith-filled community that understands your journey. Whether it’s a quick prayer with a coworker, a church group that lifts you up, or friends who simply listen without judgment, faith connects us to others in powerful ways. Galatians 6:2 (NIV), encourages us to “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Sometimes, carrying each other’s burdens looks like covering a shift, sharing scripture, or simply reminding another mom that she’s doing an amazing job.

Faith isn’t just something we believe—it’s something we live. It’s the whispered prayer while rocking your baby to sleep. It’s the scripture you cling to during a tough shift. It’s trusting that God’s plan is at work, even when you’re struggling to see it. As you navigate your own challenges, let faith be your foundation. You’ll find that it not only strengthens you but also transforms the way you approach life’s storms—in scrubs, in motherhood, and beyond.

Let me know in the comments: How has faith strengthened you during tough times? Whether it’s at work, at home, or in healing from your past, I’d love to hear your story. Let’s grow together in this journey of faith, resilience, and grace.
