Hey Sis,
Let’s have a real chat. We’re out here taking care of everybody—our babies, our patients, and probably a friend or two who’s texting us about their latest drama. We’re basically superheroes, but even superheroes need to recharge. If we don’t fill our cups, what are we pouring from? Spoiler alert: You can’t pour from an empty cup, and running on coffee and good intentions only works for so long.
So how do we refuel when life is a constant swirl of charts, homework, and prayers for patience? Pull up a seat and let your friend break it down for you.
1. Start with Jesus Juice (AKA Prayer and Devotion Time)
Let’s not get it twisted—Jesus is the plug! When the day starts feeling like the ER on a full moon, that’s your cue to plug into the source. Matthew 11:28 (KJV) says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Sis, that’s not just a suggestion; it’s an open invitation! Whether it’s a quick prayer in the car before work or reading a verse while your kid is brushing their teeth, take that time to connect. Trust me, it’s like spiritual Wi-Fi—you’ll feel the signal boosting your energy.
2. Dance Parties and Laugh Breaks
You know how your kid suddenly busts out with their latest dance and swears they invented it? Join them! Throw on some music, and let loose for five minutes. Laughter and movement are like a reset button for your soul.
And don’t be shy about laughing at work either. If a patient cracks a joke, laugh like your rent just got paid. Joy is contagious, and let’s be honest, sometimes we need it to survive those long shifts.
3. Delegate Like a Boss
Sis, you are not a one-woman show, even if it feels like it sometimes. Teach those babies to fold their own clothes and clean their rooms (we’re building future adults here). At work, don’t be afraid to lean on your team.
Remember: Delegation is not weakness. It’s wisdom. Moses had Aaron, and you have your crew. Let them help you because, spoiler alert, you’re not in this alone.
4. Hydrate, Sis—Literally and Figuratively
When’s the last time you drank some water? (I’ll wait.) Staying hydrated is self-care 101, but don’t stop there. Hydrate your soul too. Listen to a good sermon, a bomb gospel playlist, or that podcast that makes you feel seen. Feed your spirit while you’re sipping that water.
Pro tip: Buy a cute water bottle. It’s amazing how much more you’ll drink when your bottle is giving “main character energy.”
5. Schedule “Me Time” Like It’s a Mandatory Meeting
You schedule shifts, your kid’s dentist appointment, and even your grocery runs—so why not schedule time for yourself? Whether it’s a bubble bath, a walk in the park, or locking yourself in the bathroom to read a book, take that time.
Mark 6:31 (KJV) reminds us: “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Even Jesus knew the importance of taking a moment to breathe. If He needed it, you know we do!
6. Celebrate the Little Wins
Did you keep a patient smiling today? Did your kid eat something green without a fight? Did you make it through the day without snapping on someone? Celebrate it! Life’s tough enough—don’t wait for the big moments to give yourself props.
Pour yourself some sparkling juice (or your fave treat) and toast to being the amazing mom, nurse, and woman that you are.
My Final Gem
Caring for yourself, your kid(s), and your patients is a lot, but you’ve got this. Remember, self-care isn’t selfish—it’s survival. Keep filling your cup so you can keep pouring into the people who need you most.
